How to Build a Cocktail
One of the first steps you'll need to learn when starting to make cocktails is how to "build" the cocktail from some recipe. The term build simply refers to the manner and order that the various ingredients are mixed together. Usually, a cocktail is made in a mixing container. Typically, the order the ingredients are added to the mixing container will be ice, primary spirits, secondary spirits such as vermouth, and finally bitters. These ingredients will then be mixed together either by stirring or shaking according to the recipe. Finally, the mixed cocktail ingredients will be strained into a serving glass, and any garnish will be added if called for in the recipe.
