How to Stir a cocktail
Like shaking, stirring is an essential skill for making cocktails. Stirring has the effect of mixing the ingredients, chilling the ingredients as well as mixing water diluting the cocktail. To properly stir a cocktail, you'll need a mixing glass and a bar spoon.
First fill the mixing container about half to two thirds full of ice. Next pour the cocktail ingredients over the ice.
To properly hold the bar spoon, place your spoon between your thumb and your first two fingers. The shaft of the spoon should be between your index and middle finger.
Now stick the bar spoon into the mixing glass all the way until the spoon head rests against the bottom of the mixing glass. Use your wrist to turn the spoon in the glass. The spoon will spin about in your fingers on its own. Use your index finger to pull the spoon toward you and your middle finger to push it away. This will cause the ice and cocktail ingredients to spin around in the mixing glass. Stir for about 1 minute, or sixty rotations of the stirrer.
Now strain the cocktail mixture in its serving glass and quickly serve while its chilled at its perfect temperature.
